Autumn is in the air, and it’s Fair season in New England!
It’s been years since I have had the opportunity to enjoy local fairs for multiple days. Over the past few weeks, my family and I got dressed up in our fall clothes, boots, and jackets and set off to soak in the sights, sounds, smells, and tastes of Fair life in Connecticut. It has been a blast!
I was inspired to create a few country rustic cards in the midst of my frenzied, Christmas event preparation. After all, I don’t want the fall months to fade away without thoroughly enjoying the stamp sets that speak autumn – colorful leaves, crisp air, apple cider, pumpkins, and all things New England.
Along the roads to the fair grounds, it is common to see barns, orchards, farmland and homes decorated with pumpkins, cornstalks, and mums. The rich colors of Pumpkin Pie, Cherry Cobbler, Mossy Meadow, So Saffron, and Bronze glisten in the sunlight creating a gorgeous mosaic of autumn delight.
The first stamp set I was drawn to immediately after being inspired traveling the country roads was Heartland found on Page 48 in the Annual SU Catalog.
Keeping it simple, a little bit of texture was all that was needed to create the feel I was looking for with this card. I used Stampin’ Blends to color in the images. The trees were especially fun to color using a dot of color here and there (times 4) to create the autumn leaves look.
The Durham Fair has always been a favorite of mine since I was a teenager, and sharing this experience with my family was high on my list of all things fall. It was extra special this year as the fair was celebrating its 100th fair! We all express our creativity in different ways, and for my daughter, Melody, baking is certainly one of her creative outlets. She bravely took the challenge of entering some of her baked goods into the fair. This was her first time ever entering anything in a competitive forum. She entered three categories and placed in all three! We are so proud of our beautiful baker. She received two blue 1st Premium ribbons and one red 2nd Premium ribbon. We had the pleasure of sampling these yummy desserts before and after… so delicious! Be sure to subscribe to my blog and request the recipes. If you already subscribe, let me know if you would like me to email you the recipes for her Coconut Zucchini Bread, Mallow Bars, and/or Oatmeal Peanut Butter Cookies.

I didn’t get a photo of this, but watching the tractor pull at the Berlin Fair was pretty amusing. It’s fun to watch people do something they are passionate about even if it’s something I would never do (nor did I see the value of doing it 😂). I guess if it brings joy to the performer and creates a smile for those watching, then it does have great value.
Here is my tribute to the tractor pull.
